The Makers Market UK – Terms & Conditions
By booking or attending a Makers Market UK Ltd event, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms & Conditions.
These terms are designed to protect you as a trader, our visitors, and The Makers Market UK Ltd.
Bookings & Allocation

The Makers Market reserves the right to decline, cancel, or remove a trader or booking at any time, even after payment has been made, without obligation to provide specific reasoning.

Removal from an event or future events may occur if products, conduct, or presentation are deemed unsuitable or inconsistent with the ethos or standards of The Makers Market.

Refunds are at the discretion of The Makers Market and may be withheld in cases of policy breach, non-compliance, or inappropriate behaviour.

Traders agree that The Makers Market’s decisions are final and that no legal claim, defamation, or damages action may be brought against The Makers Market UK Ltd, its directors, or its employees in connection with the refusal, cancellation, or removal of a booking.

Receipt of an acceptance email or passcode does not guarantee a stall space.

Stall allocations, positioning, and layouts are determined solely by The Makers Market team and may be adjusted at any time to suit operational needs.

Hot food and drink traders must have prior authorisation before booking.

No exclusivity is granted to any trader or product category.
Weather & Event Cancellations
-
Makers Market cancellations: In the event of an event cancellation (e.g. severe weather), 75% of stall fees will be refunded. The remaining 25% contributes to unavoidable event costs.

Trader cancellations: Traders must cancel by 4pm the Monday before the event to receive a credit note.

Christmas events (including Chester, Trentham, and Quayside) are non-refundable and non-transferable after 1st November.

Deposits are strictly non-refundable and non-transferable under all circumstances.
Presentation & Standards
-
Stalls must be professional, safe, and align with the artisan aesthetic of The Makers Market.
-
The event team may request immediate changes to your display or remove items not deemed suitable.

Products containing offensive, explicit, or inappropriate imagery/profanities must be censored.
-
Products imitating weapons (toy, edible, illustrated, or otherwise) are not permitted.
-
Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited near stalls or market areas.
Insurance, Safety & Legal Compliance

A minimum of £5 million Public Liability Insurance is required. Some hot food traders may be asked for £10 million.

Employers’ Liability Insurance is required if you employ staff.
-
Proof of insurance must be available for spot checks.

Traders must carry out and keep a risk assessment covering trip hazards, electrical/gas safety, hygiene, and infrastructure.

Own gazebos must be fit for purpose and weighted with a minimum of 40kg across the structure. The Makers Market is not liable for damages caused by trader infrastructure.

Traders are responsible for ensuring all products meet UK legal and safety standards, including weights and measures, hygiene, cosmetics, toy safety, and hallmarking laws.
Food & Drink Traders

Must be registered with their local council and comply with Environmental Health regulations.

Display current Food Hygiene Rating.

Provide handwashing facilities (hot water flask & soap minimum).
-
All open food must have sneeze guards and handlers must wear gloves.

Allergen and ingredient information must be displayed.
-
Temperature checks must be carried out and recorded where applicable.
-
All waste must be removed by traders (not left in market bins).
Hot food traders:
-
Must have PAT certificates for electrical items and valid gas safety certificates for appliances.
-
No generators are permitted.
-
No power is supplied unless previously arranged.
Specific Product Categories
Cosmetics & Skincare
-
Must hold valid Cosmetic Safety Assessments (CPSR), CPNP registration, and maintain Product Information Files (PIFs).

Labels must comply with UK cosmetics law.
-
Vegan/organic/cruelty-free claims require certification.
Jewellery & Precious Metals
-
Items must be hallmarked where required by law.
-
A Dealer’s Notice (A4 minimum) must be displayed.
Crystals
-
Only authentic, responsibly sourced crystals permitted.
-
No mass-produced goods from Temu, Shein, Alibaba, etc.
-
Synthetic/faux stones must be clearly labelled.
Toys
-
All toys must carry the UKCA mark and comply with testing and certification requirements.
Alcohol
-
Must be sold under a valid Personal Licence.

Challenge 25 signage must be displayed.
-
No open tasters may be displayed.
Conduct & Behaviour
-
All traders must act professionally and courteously toward event staff, other traders, and the public.
-
Aggressive, abusive, or discriminatory behaviour will result in immediate removal and permanent trading ban.

Makers Market reserves the right to remove any trader for behaviour deemed damaging to the reputation of the event or company.

Repeated lateness (3 occasions) or no-shows (3 occasions) may result in removal from future markets.

Traders must stay for the full duration of the event unless authorised by an event manager.
Right to Remove & Legal Indemnity

The Makers Market UK Ltd retains the absolute right to refuse, cancel, or remove any trader, at any stage, for any reason — including paid bookings — if the products, conduct, or business practices are deemed unsuitable or inconsistent with our ethos (e.g. AI-generated, non-artisan, or misrepresented goods).

Traders waive any right to pursue legal action, compensation, or damages in relation to removal, cancellation, loss of sales, or reputation.

Participation in Makers Market events is at the sole discretion of the organisers, and all decisions are final.
Liability & Indemnity

The Makers Market UK Ltd is not liable for trader sales, theft, visitor numbers, or exclusivity of products.
-
Traders are responsible for their products, equipment, and staff.
-
Parking fines or penalties are the trader’s responsibility.
GDPR & Marketing
-
Trader data is retained securely and may be used for event administration and marketing purposes.
-
Business names may be featured on social media, websites, or printed materials.
-
Hygiene and licence details may be disclosed to authorities if requested.
Final Notes
-
Stallholders must remain within their allocated pitch size.
-
Event manager instructions regarding safety or presentation must be followed immediately.
-
Copyright and intellectual property issues are the responsibility of the parties involved — The Makers Market will not mediate disputes.
